A Direct Business Transaction is a trade that is negotiated and agreed directly between a buyer and a seller, away from Bursa Malaysia's open order book, and then reported into the exchange's Automated Trading System (ATS) for settlement and clearing. In a normal trade, your buy or sell order goes into the central order book, where it is matched against whatever the market offers at that moment. The price and the counterparty are determined by the live market. The order is, in effect, public. A DBT works differently. The two sides — and their brokers — agree on the price and quantity before the trade is reported. The order never sits in the public queue waiting to be matched. It is privately arranged, then declared to Bursa so that it is properly recorded, cleared, and settled under exchange rules.
